Blue Connect FAQ

1. How do I use my Blue Connect card?

STEP 1:  Unwrap the card from its protective plastic wrapper.

STEP 2:  Scratch off the silver panel on the back of the card to reveal your PIN.

STEP 3:  Dial the access code 888 followed by # from any fixed line or payphone.

TIP:  The # (pound or hash) key is located below the 9 key.

TIP:  If 888 # does not immediately connect you to our international gateway, then your telephone may be behind a PBX.  In this case, dial access code 1-800-534-0888.

STEP 4:  When asked to enter your card number, key in your PIN from the back of the card followed by #.

STEP 5:  When asked to enter your destination number, key in the number you wish to call followed by #.

TIP:  For specific instructions on how to format the destination number, see the FAQ called "How do I dial my destination number?".

2. How do I dial my destination number?

STEP 1:  Dial 1 or 011, depending on the destination country.  For the USA, Canada and most English-speaking Caribbean use 1; for all other countries use 011.  If you are uncertain which to use, check the rate table.

STEP 2:  If you dialed 1, then dial the Area Code.  If you dialed 011, then dial the Country Code.  If you are uncertain of the country code, check the rate table.

STEP 3:  Dial the remainder of the telephone number following by #.

TIP:  If you see a number in brackets, such as (0), do not dial it.

Example: +44 (0) 1494 565 999
You Dial: 011 44 1494565999 #

3. Why can't I call North America for 20 minutes and 24 seconds with a new $10 card?

Calls are billed in one minute increments.  When you enter the destination number your current card balance is divided by the rate per minute and the number of WHOLE minutes available is announced.

EXAMPLE:  $10 / $0.49 = 20.4 minutes = 20 WHOLE minutes

After you complete your call, there may be a small balance remaining on your card which is insufficient to place a further call.  This is a function of how calls are rated and billed.

4. A few seconds after I hear "Your call is being routed",  I'm asked for my destination number again.  What is happening?

When the destination number is busy or you reach a number that is out of service (often because you have misdialled), Blue's International Gateway gives you an opportunity to dial another number automatically.

We have asked our gateway supplier to modify this behaviour to provide a busy signal for several seconds before asking for another destination number.

5. Why can't I reach Blue's International Gateway from my Digicel mobile phone?

Digicel is currently blocking access to both of Blue's access numbers 888 (note the # is not needed when using a mobile phone) and 1-800-534-0888.

This is of little consequence, as in most cases the mobile's rate to reach our International Gateway (a fixed line) ADDED TO Blue Connect's rate will be GREATER than the mobile's rate for placing the international call directly.

Just remember, in most cases you'll save a lot over using your prepaid mobile phone if you place that call from a fixed line or payphone using Blue Connect!

6. When does my Blue Connect card expire?

Your Blue Connect card will expire 3 months from first use, or 3 months from the date it was last recharged using a credit card.

TIP:  If your card has already expired, recharging it will recover the expired balance, which will then be added to the amount of the recharge.  The minimum recharge is $10, and is available by calling 1-800-534-BLUE.
